The "Screening 12 Test" is an identification test with 12 different everyday smells. It can be used to find a rough answer to the question whether a patient has normal or diminished olfactory capability. This smelltest was developed for the ENT specialist or neurologist in private practice or for the general practitioner.

In addition to the 12 Sniffin` Sticks for testing the normal olfactory capability this test contains Tatse Strips for testing the four basic taste qualities (sweet, sour, salty, bitter).

With the "Extended Test" a detailed examination of the olfactory sense may be performed. This smell test was developed for the clinical use (ENT, neurology, psychiatry, internal medicine, etc).
The test contains three modules: threshold test, discrimination test and identification test.
The threshold test has 48 Sniffin' Sticks (32 blanks and 16 dilutions n-butanol or 2-phenyl ethanol). This module can be used to ascertain the patient's olfactory threshold.
The discrimination test consists of 48 Sniffin' Sticks (48 Sniffin' Sticks = 16 pairs of odorants each with 1 individual smell). In this case, the patient must differentiate between more or less similar smells.
The identification test consists of 16 Sniffin' Sticks with everyday smells which the patient has to name using a selection card containing four definitions each.

The Taste Strips are a validated test method for ascertaining tasting performance.
The Strips are used to check the tasting performance of the whole mouth by placing a Taste Strip on the tongue and closing the mouth, or for testing certain parts of the tongue by placing the Taste Strip on the respective part of the tongue while the mouth stays open.
The smelltest consists of: 16 containers with 4 concentrations of sweet, sour, salty, bitter and 3 containers with blanks. Every box includes 19 containers with 50 strips each. In sum these are 950 strips.
